Greetings! I’m Peat, and I’m a geek, a photographer, a speaker, an entrepreneur, an author, and a collector of odd hobbies. I’m applying for a Month at the Museum because I think it’s an awesome opportunity to help promote science literacy, meet a ton of new people, and become intimately familiar with a historical institution.
Professionally, I’m a web developer and consultant to high tech startups. When I’m not working I enjoy travelling, photography, and collecting paper currencies. I also hang out with the Portland Ruby Brigade, the Portland Web Innovators, partake in Legion of Tech events (like BarCamp and Ignite), and have been known to participate in seasonal board sports (snow, surf, and skate). I also have a rather long standing fascination with rocketry, and an Erdos number of 3.
I’m always looking for opportunities to research and speak on interesting topics. Recently I’ve presented on photography in abandoned places (Ignite Portland 2008), Internet use in emerging economies (Webvisions 2009), and Amazon’s SimpleDB (Art of Making Clouds, 2009).
I currently live in Portland, Oregon with my wife, a cat, and a particularly wonderful little boy.
